How Does the Algebra 1 EOC Affect Your Grade?

The Algebra 1 EOC counts as 30% of your final grade. The other 70% of your grades comes from the two semester grades with each semester counting 35%. The Algebra 1 EOC is graded on a scale of 0-5 and that score needs to be translated to the A-F scale before calculating your final grade. The following table shows how that translation is done.

* The only way to get an Algebra 1 EOC score of 0 is to not take the test.

How Do You Calculate Your Final Grade?

Before calculating your final grade you need to change all of your A-F letter grades to numerical values on a scale of 0-4 using the following table:

A-F Grade   Point Value 

       A                  4

       B                  3

       C                  2

       D                  1

       F                   0   

Now, take each of your semester grades and multiply them by 0.35 and multiply your Algebra 1 EOC grade by 0.30. The sum of those values is your final point value and you can use the table above to translate that to a letter grade. Note that if your final point value has a decimal of 0.5 or higher, then you round up your grade.

A Sample Algebra 1 Grade Calculation

Assume that you got an A for the first semester, a C for the second semester, and a 3 on your Algebra 1 EOC. Your A for the first semester gives you 4 points, the C for the second semester is 2 points and your 3 on the Algebra 1 EOC gives you 3 points. Your final Algebra 1 grade calculation would be as follows.

Final Grade = 4(0.35) + 2(0.35) + 3(0.30) = 3

Using the table above you can see that your final grade of 3 equates to a B.
